For the second consecutive year, the HASI Foundation partnered with the Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF) to provide support to Clagett Farm. This 283-acre regenerative farm owned by CBF and located in Maryland plays a crucial role in promoting sustainable agriculture practices and enhancing the local environment. Through its Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program, the farm cultivates organic vegetables that benefit over 250 shareholders in the community. In addition to serving shareholders, the farm donates more than 30 percent of the harvest each week to partners at the Capital Area Food Bank and Prince George’s County Food Rescue.
Clagett Farm’s commitment to the local community extends beyond the CSA program. The farm actively fosters volunteer opportunities, offering individuals a chance to connect with nature, learn about sustainable agriculture, and contribute to the local food system. The support Clagett Farm also provides fellow farmers empowers peers in the region to adopt regenerative practices. Outreach and education events organized by the farm further promote awareness and understanding of the importance of regenerative agriculture to nurturing healthy soil, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and improving water quality in the Chesapeake Bay watershed.
In October 2022, HASI employees volunteered at Clagett Farm, helping harvest fresh radishes, greens and ginger for CSA shares and produce donations to local foodbanks alike. Employees also learned about the Farm’s regenerative farming techniques that help mitigate climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and increasing resilience to flooding.
